Marcony Barros

At the Everett School Committee meeting on Monday, June 1, 2026, Marcony Barros was active on several procedural and substantive items.

He first moved to close public comment, saying, “I make a motion to close public comment.” He also moved to accept the student representative’s report and place it on file. Both motions carried by unanimous yes votes.

During the superintendent’s report, Barros offered public praise for the district’s work with Worcester State University. He said, “I just wanna commend the superintendent and his team for this partnership with Worcester State University,” calling it “a great initiative” and saying, “The whole initiative of easing the way for students to attend a university, it is to be commended.” He added, “This is a huge deal,” and thanked Superintendent Lynch and everyone involved “in this successful process.” He also thanked the superintendent and staff for “putting this together.”

Barros seconded the motion to accept the superintendent’s report, which passed on a yes vote.

He then raised a question about student lunch time in light of crowding at school. Referring to the building’s student population, he asked whether “it’s just really not possible to have more than 20 minutes in order to have everyone eating and moving in the cafeteria and moving bringing kids in, kids out. Is that correct?” After the response, he said, “Yeah. Definitely,” and continued that “20 minutes is really not enough.” He stressed that “Overcrowding continues to be a huge issue here” and said the timing forces students to rush: “you are like trying to swallow a sandwich or food in order to rush you because there is another group coming together.” He emphasized that he was not blaming staff or the committee, but said it was “an issue that persists in the Everett Public Schools.”

Barros moved to accept the Everett Public Schools district wellness policy, and the committee approved it unanimously. He also seconded the motion to pay bills and payroll in the amount of $2,271,989.40, which passed by a yes vote. Finally, he moved to go into executive session and adjourn into executive session without returning to public committee, and that motion also passed by unanimous yes vote.

At the Everett School Committee meeting on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Almeida Barros took a limited but active role, primarily by moving items forward for consideration at the next regular meeting.

During the budget discussion, Barros said, “I would like to make a motion to refer this item to our regular meeting, which is going to happen on Monday, May 4.” Barros added, “To be discussed and voted by the committee.” The motion was to refer the FY 2027 budget to the regular meeting on Monday, 05/04/2026, and Barros voted yes.
